Is the cancer going to spread faster if the limb is not removed fast enough?

Author: neysha | Filed under: Uncategorized

Benji has been diagnosed of Bone Cancer. it could be a Osteoscarcom but could also be a Plasmazelltumour which would not require for the limb to be taken. A biopsy will be done on the April 27. and if its a Osteascarcom Benji’s leg will be amputated the first week of May.  I hope this does not mean that the cancer will spread faster due to the lenght of  time. Benji first started to limp in March and started constantly limping since April 15.

sounds like you are being proactive and are doing everything you can to help benji. geesh, it’s already the 22nd, so you’re talking maybe 10 days till the probable amputation. that’s not that long. has your vet done any chest films yet? we think you’d want to know if there is metastasized cancer in the lungs (lung mets), which would give you a better time line. we dealt with soft tissue sarcoma, so no experts in our house on bone cancer, but alot of folks on this site know bunches!! sending our best to you guys, hoping you get good information and benji will soon be relieved of the pain.

There was one study done years back at Purdue that suggested exactly the opposite – that removal of the primary tumor might actually expedite metastasis. See the transcript of our live chat with vet oncologist Dr. Lucroy for more information.

Welcome and best wishes for Benji. Please keep us posted.

They did do lung scans but nothing can be seen yet. I was worried since slight limping started in March. I thought it was Arthertius. He only started limping completely since 15th Arpil when the first mini biopsy was done.
